Research Interests


Dr. Reiber has been the core epidemiologist for the HSR&D Field Program at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System in Seattle since 1991. She is a Professor in the Departments of Health Services and Epidemiology at the University of Washington.

Dr. Reiber is a core investigator with two National VA Research Centers. She works on outcomes the VA Center of Excellence for Limb Loss Prevention and Prosthetic Engineering. She is responsible for the education program for the Seattle Epidemiologic Research and Information Center (ERIC) and is involved in national data projects. In 2002 she will direct the VA Summer Epidemiology Session at the University of Washington June 24-28. For the first time ERIC courses will be broadcast nationwide on 5 VA and educational TV stations to VA and academic researchers and clinicians. She is working with colleagues at CDC on veteran questions for the 2003 National Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System.

Dr. Reiber's major research interests are diabetes and the prevention and treatment of lower limb ulcers and amputations. She is Principal Investigator or Co PI on four studies that include research on treatment and outcomes of diabetic foot ulcers in the US and the UK. She was recently funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to conduct a randomized clinical trial of diabetes self-management in a Washington State population of Medicaid and dual eligible Medicare recipients. A similar trial involving extensive community coordination is planned for high-risk veterans with diabetes. Dr. Reiber is also responsible for the HSR&D Pre-doctoral and Post-doctoral training programs at VA Puget Sound Health Care System.
